Speed Nation 2016 roundup presented by Sony

The 2016 edition of the Sports Experts Speed Nation took place last week in St. Adèle, QC at ski Chantecler. Riders from across the world descended on the small town for a week to compete for the title of national champion in Alpine, snowboardcross , and para snowboardcross racing. Darren Gardner (Burlington, ON) took gold in both the PGS and PSL events, to cement his spot as Canadian champion. Sebastien Beaulieu (Sherbrooke, QC) and Jasey-Jay Anderson (Lac Supérieur, QC) rounded out the overall Canadian Alpine championship podium.

During Wednesday’s Snowboardcross races, Kevin Hill (Vernon, BC) narrowly edged out national teammate Chris Robanske (Squamish, BC) in a thrilling Big Final that saw both riders neck-and-neck all the way to the finish line. Tess Critchlow (Kelowna, BC) took home the top spot on the women’s side to claim the Canadian Female SBX championship.

Saturday also saw the Para National championships take place with John Leslie (Arnprior, ON) taking home the gold in the lower limb category. Gerrit van Bruggen (Calgary, AB) wowed the crowd by edging out Alex Massie (Barrie, ON) in a photo finish in the semi-final to eventually finish second. Curtis Minard (Vernon, C-B) was the gold medal winner in the upper limb category.  Michelle Salt (Calgary, AB) took home the gold in the women’s category.
