Speed Nation Alpine Tour

The Speed Nation Alpine Tour brings together the best Alpine athletes in North American to compete in 3 Speed Nation Alpine events during the winter season. All the Speed Nation Alpine events are located in the East Coast of Canada and are part of the North American Cup Tour.

The SPEED NATION Alpine CUP

“I feel the need – the need for speed!”
-Peter ‘Maverick’ Mitchell in the Tony Scott film Top Gun

Swiftness may be their sharpest weapon, but stamina, vision and consistency will also be needed by those hoping to claim the title of fastest alpine rider in Canada.

In order to win the Speed Nation Alpine Tour Cup, riders will accumulate points throughout the Tour, with the trophy awarded to the male and female rider atop the points race at the end of the season. In 2018, the official Tour stops will include Le Relais (January 3-4), Toronto Ski Club (February 20-21) and Nationals (at Blue Mountain, February 5-9).

Results will be posted to canadasnowboard.ca [link to results page] following each Tour stop, as will the updated competitor points table.

Speed Nation Alpine Tour Cup points are tallied as follows:

  • The first place rider receives one point for every competitor that they have finished ahead of at a Tour event. For example, if there are 87 female riders competing at a Tour stop, the women’s event winner will earn 86 Speed Nation Alpine Tour Cup points. The second place finisher receives 85 points, the third place receives 84, etc.

  • Did Not Finish (DNF) and Disqualified (DQ) riders will not be ranked and will not earn any points, but they will still be counted in the total number of event competitors. As such, in an event with 60 male riders, for example, with 4 DNFs and 1 DQ, the last place finisher of the event with a registered time will receive 5 points (since he finished ahead of 5 riders), while the first place finisher receives 59 points (having bettered a total of 59 other riders).

  • Points can only be earned at official Speed Nation Alpine Tour stops.
