Big White, BC (February 1st, 2022): Canada Snowboard and BC Snowboard announce the launch of the ‘Welcome to Paradise’ Para Snowboard World Cup presented by Swatch and Toyota at Big White Ski Resort with back-to-back Para Snowboard Cross events for 2022 leading into the Beijing Paralympics.

The next stop of Canada Snowboard’s ‘Shred the North’ Major events tour is just around the corner on the calendar. The event that has become a staple at Big White Ski Resort year after year embarks under the new brand of ‘Welcome to Paradise.’ The event brings together athletes from around the globe as they vie for their final spots and preparations for the 2022 Paralympic Games. This year’s version will host two individual para snowboardcross disciplines, with the finals set for February 11th and 12th, 2022.

The Paralympic snowboard team will officially be named in tandem with the timing of the event, and will be the final event before heading to Beijing. The Canadian contingent that will be present at the event recently returned from the World Para Snowboard Championships with all four of Canada’s national team athletes hitting the podium at the event, the largest medal haul ever for team Canada at the World Championships. BC-based athlete, and newly minted World Champion Tyler Turner commented “It’s been an unbelievable couple of weeks, the team all really showed up this week and we’re all going home incredibly happy.”

One of the favourite stops on the global tour for athletes, the Canadian event will play host to the evolution of the Para-snowboard World Cup event at Big White Ski Resort, B.C. Welcome to Paradise is an IPC sanctioned event and guaranteed to be epic. Big White Ski Resort has been hosting this event for many years and know how to build a great course and put on a spectacular event with World-class hosting.

Trevor Hanna, VP of Hospitality at Big White Ski Resort commented: “In our partnership with Canada Snowboard and BC Snowboard we have become renown for being the stop on the World Cup circuit that can produce a top tier event with a challenging course along with excellent amenities for teams, support staff and sponsors.  We are very proud to once again have the opportunity to welcome the world and support these athletes in their bid to make it to the Games in Beijing.”
