Livigno, Italy, Feb 6 — Canadian snowboard cross athlete Meryeta O’Dine will be unable to compete at the Olympic Games following an injury sustained during training.
O’Dine fell during a snowboard cross training session yesterday and was subsequently evaluated by the Canadian Olympic and Canada Snowboard medical team. Medical imaging confirmed a fracture to an ankle bone, which will prevent her from competing for the remainder of the Games.
A three-time Olympian and two-time Olympic medalist, O’Dine has been a cornerstone of Canada’s snowboard cross program. Her absence from competition is a significant loss for the team.

“I’m heartbroken,” said O’Dine. “But I am proud of the work I put in this year to get here. After I fractured my ankle in November, I was able to show myself a new level of dedication, passion and hard work to return stronger. I have seen a new athlete in myself emerge from the challenges I have faced this year and will continue to rise above. I am upset now, but I will grow from this.”

Meryeta will be available to media over the next few days.
