Liam Brearley Faces Knee Injury — Focused on the Comeback

December 17, 2025

The 2025–26 competitive season won’t see Liam Brearley charging down the slopes, but this is far from the end of his story. Canada’s Olympic pre-qualified snowboarder recently underwent knee surgery following an injury sustained during training and is now fully focused on a structured recovery program, with plans to return to snow in April 2026.

“This has definitely been a tough moment for me, but I’m staying positive and focused on coming back stronger,” said Brearley. “I’m grateful for the support from my family, my team, my incredible sponsors, my management team and everyone who has reached out. The Olympics mean a lot, but so does having a long career ahead and competing for Canada. This is just part of the journey.”

The procedure was successful, and Brearley has already begun rehabilitation under the guidance of team doctors and medical specialists. While he won’t be competing this season, he’ll remain active in the snowboard world through a series of initiatives, including a short documentary planned in partnership with X Games set to release in January, along with select media appearances and partnership engagements.

“Liam is an exceptional athlete, but he’s an even better person,” said Connor Finlay, Agent and Founder of CF Management. “His maturity and perspective through this setback speak volumes about who he is. Our priority is supporting him through recovery and ensuring he returns to the snow healthy and ready for the next season.”

Canada Snowboard echoes that sentiment. “Liam is not only a world-class athlete, but a tremendous representative of Canadian snowboarding,” said CEO Dustin Heise. “While this injury is an unfortunate setback, his long-term health and future success are the priority. We have full confidence in Liam’s recovery plan and in his ability to return stronger, and Canada Snowboard will continue to support him every step of the way as he focuses on rehabilitation and the next chapter of his career.”

Fans can hear directly from Liam on his social platforms in the coming weeks, where he’ll share more about the injury and thank the community for their support.

Liam’s return to snow is on the horizon, with light on-snow progression expected in early April as part of a carefully monitored return-to-sport plan. While the 2025–26 season may be on pause, the road ahead is bright, and Liam’s journey is far from over.

Wishing Liam a smooth and speedy recovery — we can’t wait to see him back on snow stronger than ever.
