What IS THE EVENT ABOUT?

In collaboration with Canada Snowboard,  Alberta Snowboard Association & Canadian Paralympic Committee, we are bringing an exclusive Para Snowboard experience to the Gathering. It’s your chance to ride, learn, and connect while discovering how you can champion this incredible Snowboard discipline! This event brings to life an extended and dynamic version of the Para Coach & Community e-learning during The Gathering. With many coaches from across the country on-site, the initiative is to provide a unique opportunity to ride, learn, and connect while discovering how we can champion Para Snowboarding!

Goals:

  • Deliver on-snow and off-snow sessions led by Greg Picard, Mark Fawcett & Fanny Girardin.
  • Provide coaches with experience riding and interacting with Para Snowboard active & former National team athletes, understanding their training processes, and learning about prosthetics and adaptive equipment.
  • Foster familiarity and comfort with the discipline, inspiring participants to become advocates for Para Snowboarding.

On-Snow Session

  • Targeted group of 10 – 16 coaches.
  • Coaches will participate alongside Para Snowboard athletes & coaches, gaining insights into their training, techniques, and adaptive needs, while riding all together.

Support for Participation:
To help coaches attend, travel expenses will be partially covered. This initiative is made possible through financial contributions from the Canadian Paralympic Committee and the Paralympic Foundation of Canada.

How to Participate:
Spots are limited! To express your interest, fill out the application form. Selection will be based on your interest, involvement and motivation to champion Para Snowboarding, reviewed by our selection committee. For full details, see the attached selection protocol PDF.

Targeted Coaches

Eligible Coaches will be selected based on the following priority order:

  • Priority 1 – Provincial & Territorial available spots : Priority will be given to 5 Alberta Coaches or Instructors to highlight Alberta Snowboard commitment in this event, then 1 coach per each remaining Provinces & territories will be priorities. After completion of the 5 Alberta’s spots, the geographical representation will prevail in the remaining applications, in order to ensure equitable representation across all provinces and maximize national reach.
  • Priority 2 - Completion of the Para Snowboard & Community E-Learning : Coaches who have completed this online training in the Locker will receive the highest priority, as it demonstrates their commitment to learning and readiness to champion Para Snowboarding.
  • Priority 3 - Interest in expanding Para Snowboarding opportunities : Coaches who clearly express interest, through written statements, in learning, developing new skills, and contributing to the growth and expansion of Para Snowboarding across Canada & their geographical location.
  • Priority 4 - Motivation to champion Para Snowboarding: Applicants must articulate a strong motivation, through written initiatives, to advocate, demonstrate willingness to stay involved to support the growth of Para Snowboarding in their community and beyond.

*If a tie still exists between coaches, they will be ranked according to Priority 5.

  • Priority 5 - Broadening national representation & local impact potential: Coaches from areas that would enhance the geographical diversity of the initiative, ensuring more even distribution of knowledge and advocacy potential, as well as Coaches who can demonstrate a strong potential to inspire and impact their local communities, particularly in regions with fewer existing Para Snowboarding initiatives.
