Skill chart
To be provided to eligible athletes/coaches
Skill chart info
It is important to carefully review the ranking system for skill levels 1 to 10 in the linked document and to accurately indicate your current skill level or that of your athlete.

New skills should be skills landed for the first time during the 2026/27 season.
Video
Video submissions must showcase at least one (1) full Halfpipe run and the best/most difficult skills indicated on the submitted skill chart. Any of the best/most difficult skills which are indicated but not showcased in a video submission and confirmed by the Selection Committee will be removed from the skill chart for ranking purposes.
Scoring

How your score is built

Each pathway weighs the five priorities differently. In the equations, R = rider Canadian rank, P = rider points and X = 1000 for the National Team pathway and 500 for NextGen.

Pathway A: National Team

45%
30%
10%
15%
  • 1. WSPL Halfpipe rank/points — 45%
  • 2. Foundational skill — N/A for this pathway
  • 3. Competition / unique / creative skill — 30%
  • 4. Amplitude — 10%
  • 5. Seasonal progression (new skills) — 15%

Equations

Priority 1 = 45 - (R + ((X - P) / 25))
Priority 3 = (Total Competition % + Total Creative/Unique %) x .30
Priority 4 = Average amplitude score of all skills on chart
Priority 5 = Total New Skill based on Trick ability scores
Example (illustrative only, not a real athlete): A rider ranked 3rd in Canada with 900 WSPL points scores 45 - (3 + (1000 - 900) / 25) = 45 - (3 + 4) = 38 out of 45 for Priority 1. You lose 1 point for each Canadian rank, plus 1 point for every 25 WSPL points you are below 1000.

Pathway B: NextGen

35%
20%
15%
10%
20%
  • 1. WSPL Halfpipe rank/points — 35%
  • 2. Foundational skill — 20%
  • 3. Competition / unique / creative skill — 15%
  • 4. Amplitude — 10%
  • 5. Seasonal progression (new skills) — 20%

Equations

Priority 1 = 35 - (R + ((X - P) / 20))
Priority 2 = Total Foundation % x .20
Priority 3 = (Total Competition % + Total Creative/Unique %) x .15
Priority 4 = Average amplitude score of all skills on chart
Priority 5 = Total New Skill based on Trick ability scores
Example (illustrative only, not a real athlete): A rider ranked 5th in Canada with 420 WSPL points scores 35 - (5 + (500 - 420) / 20) = 35 - (5 + 4) = 26 out of 35 for Priority 1. You lose 1 point for each Canadian rank, plus 1 point for every 20 WSPL points you are below 500.

Athletes are ranked and scored out of 100% on the five priorities above. Each gender of each pathway is ranked on its own sheet — four ranking sheets in total (Men/Women and A/B) — so every eligible athlete is compared using the same scale and equations for their pathway and gender.

WSPL ranks and points are recorded as of April 4, 2027.

Foundational and Competition / Unique / Creative skills are calculated from skill difficulty and execution as submitted in the athlete application, using technical experts’ input and video review to check against the submitted skill chart.

Seasonal progression records the improvement in difficulty and execution of the new skills each athlete learned during the 2026/27 season.

Team selection

How the team is chosen

Regardless of pathway (A or B), all eligible and ranked athletes are considered by the Selection Committee for National Team positions, from highest to lowest ranking score, on a single sheet per gender that merges pathways A and B. Any gaps or discrepancies between the A and B rankings are discussed by the committee.

Considerations

Athletes are discussed in ranking order using these considerations, until the maximum team size is reached or no eligible athletes are left:

  1. individual athlete pathway
  2. past competitive performances
  3. current competitive skill level relative to international standards
  4. progression trajectory
  5. implementation of training and competition plans
  6. Elite Performance Characteristics
  7. long-term performance potential
  8. overall team composition
Elite Performance Characteristics: The athlete’s implementation of and commitment to their on- and off-snow training plan (including attendance at team-organized sessions, warm-ups, cool-downs, and recovery sessions); the athlete’s ability to identify and actively prioritize a plan to close performance gaps and build on strengths; and the athlete’s contribution to a positive, values-based team environment.
