Canada Winter Games Snowboard Slopestyle Recap

Riders gathered from across the country in Brookvale, P.E.I today to showcase the fun that is snowboarding and to do so while representing their local province/territory. Favorable weather conditions permitted these riders to send it on the Arena Snowparks build. The five feature slopestyle course consisted of three rail sections followed by two jumps.

In the end it was Amelia Pelchat representing Team BC who came out on top with the gold and seamlessly showcased flawless execution. Items of note back blunt 270 out on the rainbow rail followed by a frontside 360 poke, and backside 540 Indy to finish with a score of 83.67.

Juliette Vallerand, representing Team QC, nabbed the silver with some technical rail tricks followed by a backside 360 and beautifully executed frontside 540 indy, earning her a score of 78.80.

Ontario native Avery Spalding, took home the bronze with technical rail tricks and clean spins with amplitude on the jump sections. Run highlights were a frontside tailslide 270 out on the rainbow rail, followed by a big backside 360 and a frontside 540 to round out the finish, scoring her a 63.00.

As the day progressed and the riding elevated you could see the competitive spirit within these riders come alive. It was a tight battle to the podium for the men, and this meant each rider had to put it all on the line.

Quebec native Eli Bouchard, defended the number one spot he achieved in qualifications, with an arsenal display of technical rail combinations and one of the only riders to perform a double cork (cab double 900) followed by a frontside 900 tail grab, earning the gold and a score of 87.67

BC’s own Tosh Krauskopf was showcasing a dizzying display of rail trickery with a backside lip, pretzel 270 out on the down bar, cab 270 on 450 out on the rainbow rail, frontside noseslide  270 pretzel out followed by a clean 720 and 1080 rotation on the jumps to take silver (85.13).

Laurent Either bolstered Team Quebec’s medal count lead with a third medal in the 2023 Canada Games for snowboarding, by way of securing the bronze. With notable run highlights like frontside noseslide pretzel 270 out on the down bar, frontboard sameway 450 out on the rainbow rail and a large 900 and 1080 jump combination just shy of silver territory with a 84.67.

We do it all again tomorrow, this time on the Parallel GIant Slalom course, where it’s all about being first to the finish line by way of edge control and holding the line! Come join us at Brookvale Alpine Resort where you can catch all the action and cheer on teams like Newfoundland who are competing in their first snowboard Canada Games!
