Canada Snowboard (CAN SBD) is pleased to announce the hiring of our latest team member Rich Hegarty
filling the role as communications specialist to oversee communications and media relations.
Rich brings with him a lifelong obsession with snowboarding and a multitude of snowboard media, event
and activation experience. Rich lived the B.C. life clocking over a decade of hit-run snaking, park-lap
chasing, powder day glory lines and backcountry sledding. This lifestyle then led into magazine editing,
both national and international titles across Europe and North America whist simultaneously launching
core snowboard events Stylewars and The Mile High which went on to be Elite Level World Snowboard
Tour Events.
His experience in Media and Event Management took Rich on a path to working on the Executive Board
of the TTR, the Board of the WSF and for the past 4 years a member of the FIS Park & Pipe Committee.
During this period Rich has been managing all Park & Pipe Pathways and Programs for the AUS National
Association giving him the perfect foundation in High Performance Sport as well as Developmental
Programs, Events and Media.
“Rich brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the space that will be integral to our success as we
grow as a sport and an organization” said Dustin Heise, executive director of CAN SBD.
“ I am extremely happy about the opportunity with the team at Canada Snowboard. I have followed the
organisation for years and have had the privilege to get to know many of its stakeholders, staff and team
riders. Canada is where everything began for me and the industry here opened my eyes to the
opportunities and possibilities both on and off the mountain. Canada is such a huge marketplace with
massive diversity in its population and mountains and I look forward to presenting and celebrating this
mix in support of all our disciplines from grass-roots to the best in the world” commented Rich.
“Communications Specialist is an evolution of the communications role at CAN SBD and we know that
Rich’s past experiences will provide a valuable foundation to his role within our Team. Rich will be
supported with contractor personnel including current and retired athletes, as well as former CAN SBD
intern Jean Lavigne, who’s bilingual skills, communications degree and recent experience with Rip Curl
Can will provide a valuable asset to the execution of our communications plan. We aim to streamline our
communications product to help unite and add value to all of our events, athletes, programs - both
National and Provincial - as well as work closely with our stakeholders and funding partners” added
Brendan Matthews, Business Operations Director
Rich will officially start the role on April 1, 2019. Please join us in welcoming him to the team. For more information about CAN SBD visit: www.canadasnowboard.ca
