Canada’s slopestyle team on top down under

September 3, 2014

PERISHER VALLEY, Australia – Sebastien Toutant of l’Assomption, Que., led Canada to a 1-2 finish and four of the top-five spots in men’s competition on Wednesday at the at the first stop on the Australian Slopestyle Tour.

Toutant, a two-time X Games champion, finished ahead of Max Eberhardt of North Bay, Ont. Torstein Horgmo of Norway was third while Tyler Nicholson of North Bay placed 4th and Maxence Parrot of Bromont, Que., an Olympic finalist in Sochi, was fifth.

"For me it's a huge confidence boost to get a podium this early in the season," said Eberhardt.  "After being off snow for a few months, it can take a while to get back into the swing of things and feel as confident as possible on a snowboard again. Making the podium seemed pretty out of reach at this contest considering how many amazing riders were a part of it and how good everyone was riding, so I couldn't be happier with the outcome. Definitely got some momentum going for the rest of the season."

Parrot was also awarded best trick of the competition for his Double Backside Rodeo 1260.

"The jumps were definitely not the biggest ones," said Parrot.  "It forced all the riders to show variations of their tricks and get creative to impress the judges on tricks we don't see often. The Backside Dub Rodeo 12 is one I learned three years ago. Never did it since though. I was stoked to be able to land that trick first time."

The 2014-15 slopestyle season kicked off at Perisher Resort on Monday with the Mile High contest, the first stop on the Australian Slopestyle Tour.

The men’s slopestyle took place Wednesday and was nothing short of entertaining. The majority of the Canadian national slopestyle team were present as well as a few development team athletes.

The team now prepares for the Style Wars event, the second stop in the Australian Slopestyle Tour taking place on September 1-3rd at Falls Creek resort.
