Big Wins Across the Board

February 8, 2025

The past week has been nothing short of phenomenal for the National Team. With victories across multiple disciplines, Canadian riders continue to make their mark on the international stage. Here’s a recap of the standout performances.

Frank The Tank: Jobin Strikes Gold

Francis (Frank) Jobin made history in Aspen, securing his first-ever World Cup victory in slopestyle with a stellar second-run score of 79.30. This marks the first World Cup podium of his career in any event, and it comes just a week after he took X Games Aspen 2025 gold in the inaugural men’s snowboard street style event.

"I’m speechless. I’ve been dreaming of getting onto the World Cup podium for a long, long time, so I’m incredibly happy right now. It’s a dream come true." – Frank Jobin

Despite Jobin’s triumph, teammate Cam Spalding still holds the top spot in the slopestyle World Cup standings with 215 points, keeping Canada in the hunt for the overall title with two events remaining.

Eli Bouchard Soars to Victory

At the Aspen Big Air World Cup, Eli Bouchard secured his first World Cup podium finish—and did so in style by claiming victory. With a combined score of 189.00, Bouchard outperformed reigning World Champion Taiga Hasegawa.

Bouchard wowed the judges with his signature trick, a triple moose flip, scoring 93.00 before stomping his first-ever backside 19, matching Hasegawa’s impressive run.

"I just won with my trick that I invented. Also, I’ve never done a back 19 in my life, and to put it down in a comp – f***, so stoked." – Eli Bouchard

Grondin Dominates in Beidahu

Eliot Grondin asserted his dominance in Beidahu, China, with back-to-back wins at the second FIS Snowboard Cross World Cup of the season on February 1st and 2nd. Winning every round from qualification to the big final, Grondin’s two victories give him a commanding lead in the overall standings, strengthening his bid to retain the Crystal Globe he won last season.

Several other Canadian athletes also made waves in China, with Evan Bichon, Colby Graham, Liam Moffatt, and Audrey McManiman all qualifying for finals on the second day of racing.

Meanwhile, in NorAm competitions in the USA, James Savard-Ferguson and Hannah Turkington dominated at Steamboat, Colorado. Savard-Ferguson claimed back-to-back wins, while Turkington secured gold in her first race and silver in her second.

Ben Heldman Podiums in Italy

Alpine racer Ben Heldman earned a well-deserved third-place finish at the European Cup in Ratschings, Italy. This race concluded a grueling January for the alpine team, who competed in 12 races across six countries.

Now, the team returns to Canada, shifting focus to the highly anticipated Shred The North World Cup series. The first stop, Légende Du Nord, VISA FIS Snowboard Alpine World Cup, takes place at Val Saint-Côme, Quebec, on February 15-16. This event promises to showcase the best of Canadian alpine snowboarding on home soil.

Looking Ahead

With major competitions still ahead, Team Canada is riding a wave of momentum. As the snowboard season progresses, all eyes will be on our athletes as they chase more podiums and season titles. Stay tuned for more updates.
