Air Nation Tour (HP, SS, BA) & Speed Nation Tours (SBX & Alpine) Cancellations Due to Travel Restrictions

Due to the latest provincial and territorial travel restrictions, all FIS sanctioned snowboarding events in Canada are cancelled for the 2020 / 2021 season. This includes The Air Nation Freestyle Nationals, the Speed Nation Snowboard Cross Nationals, the Speed Nation Alpine Nationals, NorAm, and FIS sanctioned events.
Unfortunately, due to the inability to travel freely both domestically and internationally, compounded with the restrictions placed on resorts for hosting events, the season for these events has come to a premature end.
Canada Snowboard and the Provincial/ Territorial Snowboard Associations will continue to pursue regional training opportunities and digital contest options for our members within the scope of what is possible for riders in the current pandemic landscape. Thankfully many resorts remain open across the country which provides opportunity for time on snow for teams. Resorts are maintaining discipline specific terrain with the reopening of all of their resorts to the public.
In certain areas of the country The Toyota GROM Series will continue to run depending on local rules and regulations. We want to assure all of our members Nationwide that your Provincial and Territorial Associations are working to find every solution to keep it fun and exciting in the current environment. The NorAm Tour is host to riders looking to test their skills competing against North America’s best where they are ranked with a point system set out by FIS. These events are paramount, serving as an avenue for most rising young stars before being eligible to compete at the elite level on the World Cup circuit. Annually, the results of the NorAm Tour provide personal World Cup quota spots to individual riders in each discipline as a North American block. This cancellation has triggered a proposal from the NorAm Committee to the FIS discipline committees to ensure that these additional World Cup quota spots are not lost for Canada going into the final qualification period for the Beijing 2022 Olympic Games.
Planning for the 2021 / 2022 FIS, NorAm, and Nationals tour has begun and we look forward to hosting these events in hopefully a very different landscape to the one we currently are experiencing this year.
