Canada Snowboard is proud to announce the hiring of a new technical Coach to its National Alpine Program.

June 11, 2019

Canada Snowboard is proud to announce a new coaching structure being implemented into its National Alpine Program. One of the World’s top technical coaches has recently been contracted to work directly with the Canadian National Program to focus specifically on our World Cup athletes.

The former Italian National coach Hannes Mutschlechner brings with him years of technical coaching experience from their highly successful Alpine program. Italy has a long history in the Alpine Snowboarding disciplines and Hannes will be a great asset to the Canadian system.

Jan Wengelin, Canada’s Alpine National Head Coach remains in his position running the Canadian Alpine program. Jan will work collaboratively with Hannes and welcomes the experience that comes with hiring a coach from one of the leading European Alpine nations. Jan’s focus moving forward will primarily be with the Next Gen team.

Jan Wenglin, Canada Snowboard Alpine National Team Head Coach said “Hannes will bring many years of great experiences as an athlete and as a coach to our program. He’s recent position as World Cup coach with the Italian National Alpine Snowboard Team is a feather in the hat that you wear proudly. They do have one of the strongest and hardest working team on the tour, and this is what I was looking for in the hiring of Hannes. Hannes is a hardworking person that believes in hard working athletes that give full gas at all times, a trait that will fit right in with our vision as a team -what you’re putting in, is what you’re getting out. I’m very excited and glad that we were able to secure Hannes as our alpine coach for this season and upcoming years.

Canada Snowboard in 2019 / 2020 now runs events catering to all levels of Snowboard Alpine athletes from grass roots through to Elite. The recently introduced Alpine Snow TKO FIS World Cup for PSL and PGS, due to debut in Blue Mountain, Ontario in late February 2019, caps the already stacked Canadian Alpine snowboard events pathway.
