Michelle Salt (Calgary, AB) kicked off the Para-snowboard World cup season in style, capturing back to back bronze medals at the Landgraaf, NL Banked Slalom World Cups on November 15th & 16th, 2017. This was part of an incredible effort from the Para-snowboard team, which included multiple top ten finishes across multiple categories. Brenna Huckaby (USA) and Cécile Hernandez-Cervellon (FRA) took home gold and silver respectively on both race days.
Taking part in their first world cups of the season, the Para-snowboard team arrived in the Netherlands in time for a tune up Europa cup race, with a largely world cup field in attendance. Salt set the tone for the rest of the week, grabbing bronze in the Europa cup before nabbing her world cup medals.
« For the first time in a long time I wasn’t focused on a podium finish, instead I just focused on having a good time, » commented Salt. « I set personal goals the last 3 days and am very happy I was able to acheive those goals thanks to the support of my sponsors, teammates, and coaches »
Another strong performance from the team included a pair of 4th place finishes in from Next Gen rider Sandrine Hamel (Montreal, QC), who missed out the podium by 2 tenths of a second. The team will now head to Austria for a training camp before heading to Finland for a pair of Para-snowboardcross World Cups, with qualifiation to the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Paralypic Games on the line.
