Max Parrot Defends Big Air Title at X Games Aspen 2017
After capturing gold in last year’s X Games Aspen Big Air, Max Parrot (Bromont, QC) made history at X Games Aspen 2017 by landing the world’s first Quad Underflip in competition. Parrot edged out Norway’s Markus Kleveland (82.00) with a combined score of 83.00. Mark McMorris (Regina, SK) took home X Games Bronze with a score of 73.00.
After qualifying for Sunday’s Men’s Slopestyle final in first place, Parrot was able to stomp the mind blowing Quad Underflip giving him the highest single run score of 46. His Cab Triple Cork 1620 cementing his Big Air title defence.
"I’m super excited to win a gold medal tonight. I definitely felt a lot of pressure this week because I won a gold medal last year and I wanted to back it up this year." said Parrot, who also spoke to the difficulty and progression of this year’s final.
"It wasn’t an easy final. All the athletes were killing it, it was really hard. What I love about X Games is the big air is so huge, we get so much air time that it is the place every year to progress the sport, and I’m really happy to take part in that progression and get another gold medal."
The jam format, which allowed riders to complete as many runs as possible within 25 minutes Riders’ individual runs were scored out of a maximum of 50 points, their two best runs counting toward their combined score.
Canada now turns its attention to today’s Women’s Slopestyle event, featuring defending champion Spencer O’Brien (Courtenay, BC). Women’s Slopestyle kicks off today at 11:15 AM PST.
Sunday’s main event will be the Men’s Slopestyle finals. Of the 12 riders in the final, 5 are from Canada as Mark McMorris will be looking to defend his very own X Games Aspen 2016 Gold Medal.
