APPEALS PROTOCOL
Adopted May 5, 2000
Revised through 19 November, 2009
This document sets out an Appeals Protocol for use by Canada~Snowboard, its members, athletes, staff, officials, and volunteers. The purpose of this Protocol is to ensure the fair consideration of appeals of decisions by Canada~Snowboard and persons or committees acting on its behalf. In this Protocol “member” refers to any director, employee (including contract personnel), coach, athlete, official, manager, committee member, volunteer, or any affiliate association of Canada~Snowboard; “appellant” refers to the member appealing a decision; and “respondent” refers to the body whose decision is being appealed.
This Appeals Protocol does not apply to decisions of the provincial and territorial snowboard associations. Each of these associations is autonomous in its decision-making, and has established its own appeal procedures.
The Canada~Snowboard Appeals Officers are volunteers, who have extensive backgrounds in sport, and who are completely independent of Canada~Snowboard. Their role is to support ethical and transparent decision making, and to ensure that every reasonable consideration is given to concerns about decisions that have been made by persons acting on behalf of Canada~Snowboard.
The names, contact information, and professional backgrounds of the Appeals Officers are given in the “About Us” section of the Canada~Snowboard website.
