Congratulations to Chris Witwicki, the newest member of Canada~Snowboard’s Freestyle Team. Under the leadership of the Freestyle Program Director, Leo Addington, Chris Witwicki will take on the role of Slopesyle National Team Coach, starting later this month.

Chris will be tasked with implementing the Slopestyle program, coaching the National Slopestyle A-Team and coordinating with the National B-Team athletes. The ability to coach Slopestyle at a world class level, coordinate IST practitioners, set-up and run snowboard camps, plan travel logistics and coordinate with other coaches in Canada and abroad are all key aspects of the job and were determining factors in the decision to hire Chris.

Along the way, Chris has developed superior communication and coaching skills and is comfortable working with athletes at all stages of the Long Term Athlete Development model.

In his 10 years of coaching, Chris has sent countless athletes to World Cups, Junior World Championships, Dew Tours, Burton Opens and many other high level events around the world. Chris is familiar with the current National Slopestyle team and has played a role in the development of many of them. In addition, Chris has an education in kinesiology and a business degree from the University of Calgary.

“It is a tremendous opportunity to work for Canada~Snowboard as the Slopestyle National Team Coach and build upon the success of the program through the 2014 Winter Olympics Games in Sochi,” commented Chris Witwicki.

“It is really great to have Chris onboard. I know that the athletes will be thrilled and Chris will be a very positive member of the team. I look forward to seeing the program move into its next phase on our road to Sochi,” said Leo Addington, Freestyle Program Director for Canada~Snowboard.

High Performance Director, Bob Joncas added, "We are very happy that Chris accepted the position. He will bring strong leadership skills and a great work ethic to the Slopestyle Program, which is exactly what we were looking to achieve.”
