2013 Team Investors Group Amateur Athletes Fund Bursary

In keeping with their commitment to amateur sport in Canada, Investors Group is once again offering $5,000 each to 20 of our country’s high performance athletes to assist with costs of training and competition. Since the program’s inception in 2000, the Team Investors Group Amateur Athletes Fund has provided Canadian athletes with $1,200,000.

Building on our interest in amateur sport and our commitment to the achievement of personal goals and excellence, we created a millennium fund to assist Canada’s top amateur athletes cover their training and competition costs. Your drive, dedication, focus and discipline resonate with our team of more than 4,600 consultants and employees.
Through the Team Investors Group Amateur Athletes Fund and our partnership with AthletesCAN, we are proud to play a small role in helping you, our country’s most promising athletes, reach your full potential. As ambassadors and role models, you inspire us all to strive to achieve our personal best.
To date, Investors Group has provided 1.2 million dollars in bursary funding to support our country’s most promising high performance athletes.
The bursary fund is open to any active senior national team athlete who meets the eligibility criteria.

Updated Protocol for Freestyle Events Selection
Canada~Snowboard has recently published an updated version of Freestyle Events selection protocol for the upcoming season. The updated protocol can be found online on the Canada~Snowboard website on the Freestyle page in the "Documents" section under the heading "Selection Protocols".
The major update to this protocol is that participation at World Cup competitions is now conditional on athletes meeting technical minimum standards, which can be referenced in Appendix A.
Also, participation at Canadian Halfpipe World Cups is now offered to more athletes based on the condition that they meet the following new benchmarks on the Canadian Ranking List at the time of the selection:

NEW AND IMPROVED FREESTYLE CANADIAN RANKING LIST
We have concluded a successful second year of using the Canadian Ranking List (CRL) with this year’s addition of Provincial Marquee events, Canadian Shields, and the SnowCrown (Junior and Senior). It has produced a solid and fair ranking throughout the year. With our goal of continuous improvement we consulted in depth with MemberPro (database for TTR), FIS, coaches, PTSA's and sports scientist to recalibrate the list for the 2012-2013 season.
Here are the changes made to the system based on the findings:
Increase the point’s value increments:
Last season: 0, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100
This season 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 100
Points Breakdown (points spread):
We were previously running a “Value divided by rank” which created a very harsh breakdown (50% for 2nd, 20% for 5th, 10% for 10th, 7% for 15th, 3% for 32nd) this compared to FIS (80% for 2nd, 45% for 5th, 29% for 10th, 16% for 15th, 3.2% for 32nd) and TTR (94% for 2nd, 84% for 5th, 75% for 10th, 67% for 15th, 45% for 32nd). We have developed a new point scale, which will fall between the FIS and TTR scale (85% for 2nd, 65% for 5th, 48% for 10th, 34% for 15th, 14% for 32nd)
Injuries
If an athlete gets injured during the season, he/she will have the possibility of freezing their points. The online system is not yet ready to show the athlete's frozen points but they will be kept in a separate database and will be taken into consideration during selections. To freeze points, please send a request and a doctor's note within 3 weeks of the injury to Aimee Maiatico (aimee@csf.ca). The doctor's note should state the following: date and place of the injury, type of injury, approximate time of rehabilitations.
Before making selections based on the CRL, PTSA’s should consult Aimee Maiatico to ensure athletes with frozen points are considered.

Max Henault and Dan Raymond appointed Freestyle coaches
Canada~Snowboard is pleased to announce the appointment of Max Henault as the Technical Coach for the National Slopestyle Team and Dan Raymond as the National Halfpipe Team coach.
Max Henault will work alongside Chris Witwicki with the Slopestyle team to optimize on snow training and dry land training including trampoline coaching. Dan Raymond, Max Henault and Chris Witwicki will all work under the direction of Leo Addington, the Freestyle Team Head Coach, to implement and deliver the Freestyle Program at the High Performance level. The focus of the restructured freestyle coaching program is to achieve the best possible results from the talented group of athletes including Mercedes Nicoll, Spencer O’Brien, Sebastein Toutant, Charles Reid, Antoine Truchon and the rest of their teammates as they prepare for the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.
Max Henault resides in Montreal, Quebec. Max is a former professional snowboarder who has spent several years coaching athletes under his Maximise Production training program. His talent for identifying athletes, comprehension of on snow technical aspects and air awareness for trampoline skills has lead to the success of current national team athletes including Sebastien Toutant, Mark McMorris and Maxence Parrot. Max stated, “I feel very lucky to be given the opportunity to work with the Canadian team especially since the Olympics are fast approaching. I look forward to help develop the skills of the Canadian athletes and lead them to Olympic medals.”
Dan Raymond resides in Whistler, BC and was a long-standing member of the National Halfpipe team. He has travelled the world competing in countless FIS World Cups and trained with the team leading up to the 2010 Vancouver Winter Games, where he was forerunner. Raymond was also the former coach for the Canadian junior team. Raymond stated, "I am excited to re-join the team as the halfpipe coach. This is an incredible opportunity to give back and shape the future of halfpipe riding in Canada."
With the newly appointed coaching staff for the Freestyle National Team program, the athletes will receive the upmost support and training to compete alongside the world’s best. Leo Addington added, “I am really excited to be working with the coaches that have joined our team this year. We are adding a massive base of experience and knowledge across all aspects of freestyle snowboarding that will enable the program to continue to provide the best service to our National team athletes.” The Freestyle Team members are currently training in Whistler, BC before heading out to New Zealand to start another season on the contest circuit.

In accordance with the Canada Snowboard High Performance Selection Protocol for Freestyle dated January 28, 2012 the athletes listed below have been selected for the Canadian National Snowboard Team.

Any person wishing to appeal a selection decision must do so in accordance with the Canada ~ Snowboard Appeals Policy, which is available on the Canada ~ Snowboard website (www.canadasnowboard.ca). The deadline for appeals of the selections listed in this announcement is June 4, 5:00 pm PST.
A notice of appeal, as described in the Appeals Policy, must be sent directly to one of the following Canada ~ Snowboard Appeals Tribunes:
