The Officials Program:
The purpose of the Officials Training Program is to provide snowboard officials with a greater understanding of the role they will assume during a competition and to introduce them to the rules of snowboard competition, the International Rules of Competition (IRC) of the Fédération International de Ski (FIS). Canada~Snowboard has a 3 Level Program to ensure officials will have the best opportunity to have all necessary knowledge & experience.

The Pathway:
In each of our levels, participants must complete both a theoretical and practical component. Once both portions of the course are completed with success, the participant will then receive their certification status for that level.

Take Level 1 Officials Training Course |
Any event role can qualify an individual for the Level 1 official certified status
Officiate at one or more CSF sanctioned event. |

Take Level 2 Officials Training Course |
To gain certified status, an individual must officiate at each event in the same discipline but in different leadership roles.
SBX: Officiate at 4 events; at least 1 COST level event and at least 2 regional sanctioned events
ALPINE and FREESTYLE (HP&SS): Officiate at 3 events; at least 1 COST level event and at least 2 regional sanctioned events

Take Level 3 Officials Training Course |
Individual must have completed all jury positions in each discipline, have officiated at the World Cup level at the Canadian National Championships as well as pass an on snow examination to become Certified and gain Technical Delegate Status. |
Officials Course Details
Level I:
The purpose of the CSF Level I certification course is to ensure that all participants receive the basic knowledge regarding the execution of snowboard competitions in all disciplines. Having completed the necessary steps in achieving this certification standard, a Level Iofficial will be able to assist in a variety of roles on the hill and/or indoor, at the regional and Canadian Open Snowboard Tour (COST) tour event level (Noram cups).
In this Level I official course a participant will learn skills, rules, format of snowboard competitions and get some practical experience.
Level II:
The purpose of the CSF’S Level II certification course is to ensure that all participants receive the necessary knowledge through a variety of roles in a real officiating environment to ensure proper execution of snowboard competitions in all disciplines. Having completed the necessary steps a Level II official will be able to lead in a variety of roles on the hill and/or indoor, at the regional, Canadian Open Snowboard Tour (COST) tour event and in some cases world cup level events.
In the Level II officials course, a participant will gain a strong working knowledge and understanding of the FIS Rule Book, learn how to use it decisions-making in the field of play, experiment through practical experiences in a variety of organizational tasks and be examined on their skills and leadership abilities.
Level III:
The 3rd and final level of the Canada~Snowboard Officials Training Program is designed to promote and ensure continuing education for all top level Canadian Officials. To achieve Level III certification, an Official must have completed all Jury Positions (except Head Judge) in each discipline. They must show a strong working knowledge of the FIS Rule Book and support their decisions within the FIS Rule Book. This course is only for candidates who have fulfilled all Level II Officials Requirements. This course will be delivered once per year in eastern as well as western Canada.
In the level III course, participants will gain an even stronger working knowledge and understanding of the FIS Rule Book and how to use it decision-making in the field of play. They will experiment through practical experiences as senior officials and will be tested on their skills and leadership abilities in action. The participant will then become a reference person in their province, to support local organizing comities (LOC’s) in the preparation and execution stages of their events. The level 3 certified official will also represent Canada~Snowboard as a key official.
Once all the necessary steps in achieving this certification standard are completed the level III certified officials will:
• Lead as event chair and chief of competition at high level of events, including, national championships and world cups.
• Will be a Canadian Technical delegate and be asked to take on that role at various regional and non F.I.S Canadian event in their province or territory
• Evaluate and rate an event according to CSF events standards in the corresponding level of the event
• Will become a certified level II course conductor
