Officials' Course Details

Level I:

The purpose of the CSF Level 1 certification course is to ensure that all participants receive the basic knowledge regarding the execution of snowboard competitions in all disciplines. Having completed the necessary steps in achieving this certification standard, a Level 1 official will be able to assist in a variety of roles on the hill and/or indoor, at the regional and Canadian Open Snowboard Tour (COST) tour event level (Noram cups).

In this Level 1 official course a participant will learn skills, rules, format of snowboard competitions and get some practical experience.

Level II:

The purpose of the CSF’S Level 2 certification course is to ensure that all participants receive the necessary knowledge through a variety of roles in a real officiating environment to ensure proper execution of snowboard competitions in all disciplines. Having completed the necessary steps a Level 2 official will be able to lead in a variety of roles on the hill and/or indoor, at the regional, Canadian Open Snowboard Tour (COST) tour event and in some cases world cup level events.

In the Level 2 officials course a participant will gain a strong working knowledge and understanding of the FIS Rule Book and how to use it in making decisions as an official in the field of play, experiment through practical experiences in a variety of organizational tasks and be examined on their skills and leadership abilities.

Level III:

The 3rd and final level of the Canada~Snowboard Officials Training Program is designed to promote and ensure continuing education for all top level Canadian Officials. To achieve Level III certification the Official must have completed all Jury Positions (except Head Judge) in each discipline. They must show a strong working knowledge of the FIS Rule Book and support their decisions within the FIS Rule Book. This course is only for candidates who have fulfilled all Level II Officials Requirements. This course will be delivered once per year in eastern as well as western Canada.

In the level 3 course, participants will gain an even stronger working knowledge and understanding of the FIS Rule Book and how to use it in making decisions as an official in the field of play. They will experiment through practical experiences as senior officials and will be examined on their skills and leadership abilities in action. The participant will then become a reference person in their province, to support local organizing comities (LOC’s) in the preparation and execution stages of their events. The level 3 certified official will also represent Canada~Snowboard as a key official.

Once all the necessary steps in achieving this certification standard are completed the level 3 certified officials will:

  • Lead as event chair and chief of competition at high level of events, including, national championships and world cups.
  • Will be a Canadian Technical delegate and be asked to take on that role at various regional and non F.I.S Canadian event in their province or territory
  • Evaluate and rate an event according to CSF events standards in the corresponding level of the event
  • Will become a certified level II course conductor
