In keeping with their commitment to amateur sport in Canada, Investors Group is once again offering $5,000 each to 20 of our country’s high performance athletes to assist with costs of training and competition. Since the program’s inception in 2000, the Team Investors Group Amateur Athletes Fund has provided Canadian athletes with $1,200,000.

Building on our interest in amateur sport and our commitment to the achievement of personal goals and excellence, we created a millennium fund to assist Canada’s top amateur athletes cover their training and competition costs. Your drive, dedication, focus and discipline resonate with our team of more than 4,600 consultants and employees.

Through the Team Investors Group Amateur Athletes Fund and our partnership with AthletesCAN, we are proud to play a small role in helping you, our country’s most promising athletes, reach your full potential. To date, Investors Group has provided 1.2 million dollars in bursary funding to support our country’s most promising high performance athletes.

Notice: AAP Criteria Changes

May 29, 2012

Canada~Snowboard is pleased to announce that the High Performance Program has received a new allocation of Athlete Assistance Program cards (AAP) for the 2012/2013 season from Sport Canada. With the new allocation of a quota of 30 equivalent senior cards or $540,000 Canada~Snowboard has made the following changes to the AAP Criteria:

Priority will be given to athletes who reached the Senior Carding Criteria while a minimum of one development card will be awarded per discipline. The amount allocated to each discipline will be as follows:

Snowboardcross $170,000
Alpine $125,000
Halfpipe $95,000
Slopestyle $150,000

AAP is awarded to athletes that meet criteria set out by Sport Canada and Canada~Snowboard. The funding associated with the carding helps cover athlete travel and training expenses. In addition, AAP covers one year of post secondary school education for each year an athlete is carded.

The Athlete Assistance Program (AAP) is a sport funding program that contributes to the pursuit of excellence through its contribution to improve Canadian athlete performances at major international sporting events. It enables athletes to combine their sport and academic or working careers while training intensively in pursuit of world-class performances. Athletes who are approved for funding and are financially supported through the AAP are referred to as Carded Athletes. AAP support is referred to as Carding. CAN Fund Athlete Opportunity

The next Canadian Athletes Now Fund (CAN Fund) Athlete Application Deadline is Friday January 6, 2012 (5pm EST). The deadline is under 5 weeks away but CAN Fund are accepting applications now. For the first time ever athletes can fill out and submit their applications ONLINE via their website. If you prefer to mail their applications in, that option is also available (applications are available at the website in both French and English).

NOTE: CAN Fund offers 2 applications a year. If an athlete has received the CAN Fund already this year they are still eligible to receive it again. Each application is a NEW application. To be considered for this upcoming application deadline athletes must apply before the Friday, January, 6, 2012 (5pm ET) deadline. National team athletes who are actively training to represent Canada at the international level are eligible to apply for funding.

ABOUT CAN FUND: CAN Fund is a not for profit organization devoted solely to raising funds and awareness for elite Canadian athletes. CAN Fund has raised over $13 million and proudly supported 80% of the Canadian athletes that competed in Vancouver. With every donation the donor finds out the name of the athlete they have supported and receives a tax receipt. Direct funding is provided to both able-bodied and Paralympic athletes and summer and winter athletes are eligible to apply for funding twice a year. Approved athletes receive $6,000 per application and up to $12,000 a year from CAN Fund. Athletes use this direct funding for coaching, equipment, better nutrition, travel, team fees and basic living expenses.
